Here’s to an Egg-cellent Healthy Kids Month!

In this article, we are highlighting the good eggs over at The Country Hen. The entire month, we will be focusing on kid friendly products and topics as we head into the upcoming school year.

It’s never too early to teach your children the benefits of healthy foods and proper nutrition.

In this feature, we sat down with our pals at The Country Hen  for a friendly Q & A session. Find out what the “eggs-perts” had to say.

Healthy Kids Month

The Country Hen

Tell us the story of The Country Hen.

We are USDA Certified Organic and that means no harmful pesticides, no added hormones, and no antibiotics come into contact with our lovely hens or their delicious eggs.

Our farm is also Certified Humane Raised and Handled. That lets folks know that we really take great care of our hens. We pamper our hens even more by making the certified organic feed for them ourselves, right here in our own mill.

What is your most popular “Sneak Them In” recipes for some of our picky eaters?

Picky eaters can sometimes be convinced to try something new if they are able to participate in the decision-making and preparation for meals.

One idea for getting them more engaged with their food and having some fun in the kitchen is to make egg pops.

Cut 4 inch sticks from carrots and celery and stick them into the wide part of a hardboiled egg. These can be served with any dips, sauces, or seasonings.

They are a fun snack that can get kids involved in the kitchen while providing some great nutrition from the vegetables and eggs.

What are some tips on keeping a healthy lunchbox?

Don’t forget that an important part of keeping the contents of your lunchbox healthy is food safety. We recommend that you clean and sanitize the inside of your lunchbox daily after every use.

It is also important to keep any foods that need to be refrigerated at 45 degrees or colder. These tips will help ensure the quality and safety of the nutritious foods you pack in your lunchbox.
