I’m such a freak about coffee, a snob really...it has to be a dark roast, coarsely ground for my French press. I love the smell, the taste, really everything about the ritual of making and then drinking a full press each morning. I like my coffee a dark caramel color, usually just adding a splash of organic whole milk. I have my favorite mugs; they hold the perfect amount that I’m able to drink fully before the coffee cools. I have to be able to stick my two fingers through the handle and fully grasp the mug in my hands to make it just right. My husband has gotten used to my quirky requirements surrounding my coffee ritual and will even pick me up a mug once in a while if he feels it will meet my high standards.
Recently when I came home from having lunch at a friend’s house he was shocked when I said that I had had one of the best cups of coffee that I’d ever tasted there, without a splash of milk. He was even more perplexed when I told him that it also had organic coconut oil and grass fed butter. The coffee flavor was still strong, but there was a creamy complexity to it that is just brilliant. I went straight to the kitchen and made him a cup. He agreed, best coffee ever.
I will include the recipe below for anyone interested. You will not be disappointed...
- 2 cups black coffee
- 3 tablespoons organic coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon grass fed butter
- A pinch of cinnamon to taste
Combine coffee, coconut oil and butter in a blender. Blend at a low speed for 60 seconds. Pour into a favorite mug and then sprinkle cinnamon on top to taste. Enjoy!
