5 Recipes you should be DIY-ing, not Buying!

In a world of processed food it is easy to get whatever you want when you want it, even organic and natural. But real satisfaction comes when you can make it yourself. Not only does the true taste of the food shine through but you know all the ingredients that go into it and feel a sense of accomplishment. 

I grew up in a house that had no processed food and as a kid I will be honest, I hated it. While most of my friends were downing bags of chips, cupcake,s and soda, we had cranberry juice, a loaf of homemade bread, and some fruit and veggies.

As I grew up I came to appreciate this lifestyle and I hope it is one I can pass on to my kids, but truth be told with kids and a busy lifestyle you have to give into convenience more than you like. I try to DIY store bought items as much as possible, it is not always easy but I pick one thing per week that I will make on my own. I then try to master it and then add another item.

I have personally made all the recipes we are sharing today and they are fabulous! 

1. Almond Milk

You will be surprised how incredibly easy it is to make your own Almond Milk and after you taste it you will never go back to store bought.

2. Salad Dressing

Salad dressings are a favorite because you can get really creative.

3. Hummus Recipe

Hummus made on your own pales in comparison to what you get in the store and again the add-ins are endless.

4. Granola Bar

Sometimes when I have bought granola bars at the store they can smell rancid, not with the DIY ones featured here, they are crunchy, tasty and super fresh, another recipe you can add your own personal touch too.

5. Creamer

My all-time favorite is the coffee creamer. Being a huge coffee fan and a lover of half & half this DIY healthier version does not disappoint.

Making your own food is something we have gotten away from and need to get back to. When you make your own food your eating real food, you control the ingredients (especially helpful if someone has allergies) and it can also be very therapeutic. Enjoy it, get the kids involved and happy DIYing!!
